im using my account as an example,
while on your main page, the one that lets you upload pics,
click item highlighted in red box.

then see image 2 for the page you should see next,

,

check the 1 megabyte file size item, click save.

done, now try uploading the biggest ship you have.
i swear it will upload, and wont resize it either.

this is EASY

two other site members aside from me have done this

the only real limit is the actual file size, eg 1 megabyte(not image size)

hard to reach if most members use png

see this image for an example:

3124 x 1171 is the resolution, i rotated the pic for effect.

OK- that worked out well. the reply was very helpful, so i got another silly question- how do i get the image to display right there in the post rather than just the URL? thanks again from someone who thinks digital watches are a pretty neat idea!! it tends to resiz images if they are above certain limits. the 1mb fix outlind above takes care of this.
it is damn hard to get a png to go above 1mb, so it will work for most people.

I will say this:

ANYONE who wishes to upload files PLEASE save as .png, that is great quality with high compression rate, this will cut fuzzyness and "pixelisation" that repeated saves of .jpg doing.

not that i mind restoring pics, but it takes a lot of hours to get a ship pic looking golden.

fongsaunder, I suggested the thumbnail one because its kinder on those of us whose machines cant handle pages full of uber sized pics.

I may be able to load said pages, but some cannot, either due to their machines, or the fact they might still be using dial-up.

this is ultimately an easier option to use.

photobucket allows for files up to 1 megabyte in size.

well, they added a new interface, and lets just say, ladies and gentlemen, its even easier to upload now!

thats the easier part , click choose files, and pick the file to upload, note, if uploading multiple files, just press and hold ctrl, then click, not not highlight and drag, click each file, then hit the obvious button, and boom, done.

this is the usual sticking point when it comes to uploading.
it's reduced to a drop menu, FINALLY! even easier!

note, for those who dont want to, or have difficulty with the new menu, you can still use the older method, just click the link, its right there.

image 1 shows the updated interface, the link to change the file upload size is highlighted, and as always, uploaded in png for quality!

help 1:

image 2 shows the preferred settings, far as upload size goes, use for best results if you have a free account, for paid account users, click the 2 mega byte option directly next to the 1 mega byte option.

help 2:

changing your link code options is easy.

1. Log into your Photobucket account.
2. Click the Account Settings tab in My Home. Your Account Settings page displays.
3. Scroll to the Album Settings section.

see the blue 'change link options' link in the below pic? click it.

now, these are the options I use, I cant speak for others, but this provides me with the right options for board posting.

this is also usually available below the more recently uploaded pic, like as shown below.

ok, they changed the interface again, and it does improve functionality.

I've marked out the most vital and commonly used options below.

I've omitted marking where the upload button is because really, its that obvious and can be used anywhere on photobucket.

below is the upload screen, and the upload options screens.

this is literally idiot proof now, though if any clarification is needed, just message me and I'll help you out.

upload speed is fast, very fast.

what is the abosolute image size in MB that i can upload to photobucket? i have a few i would like to post but they are pushing the 20mb size and my temp account is running out at fotki.com for the one i have posted there........ BTW the pic in question is in .png format..

not without some major downsizing of the images in question along with a net loss of overall image quality(2 things I am adamantly against).

If worst comes to worst, you could always cut the image into sections that can be peiced together.

Btw, you could try finding an appropriate wiki, I think the limit there is 10MB (free)

10mb. urgh! is there any other format i could use to maintain size and quality with a higher compression than .png? .jpg uses a compression that is similar to .png but looses detail. .tiff .gif are both out. they are twice the size of .png! god forbid i mention .bmp.

I think I figured it out. I went into Darth Proxy's post to edit it and for some reason "Disable HTML in this post" and "Disable BBCode in this post" were checked. That blocked the links from displaying properly. I unchecked them and it seems to be working now.

I am not happy with the new photobucket.. for one, they remove the ability for anyone with a free account to upload full res images...

I would like to advise you all, until they force a service wide upgrade, stick with the current photobucket, do NOT upgrade to the so called new experience.

on that note.. I really need to learn how to do that deviantart thumbnail trick......
