The 78 woman field for this LPGA/JLPGA co-sanctioned event is almost evenly split: 43 LPGA players drawn from the Official Money List as of 5 October and 35 JLPGA players as of their money list from 19 October. Of course Ai-sama and Momo-chan show up on both lists, so they presumably went down to #37 to bring Julie Lu and Michie Ohba into the field (TC only listed the Top 35 in his blog post, so I'm guessing here). The last LPGA player in the field at present is Jimin Kang (#60 on the Money List as of 5 October), leaving Young Kim (#61) and Giulia Sergas (#62) as the next two alternates.
Yes, the LPGA had to go all the way down to #60 to scrape together their 43 players for this event. Once next Monday's Rolex Rankings are out we'll have a look at the strength of the field and who's passing on playing autumn golf in the Land of the Rising Sun. I can already tell you that Ji Yai Shin's quest for the Rookie Slam is just a tad easier since Cristie Kerr will be going home after Korea this week and Suzann Pettersen is still hobbled by a bad wheel, leaving only Lorena Ochoa to keep the pressure on the Final Round Queen unless Ai-sama does something remarkable in her home country to make up for her absence the week before.

Just a link to the Kintetsu Kashikojima web site. All in Japanese... but with translator you may get some aid.

Where it says course there are pictures of the first 15 holes, then there are fly-over videos of holes 16, 17, and 18, (shown in windows media player or real player).

I hope this is the right golf course, but I am not sure. Smile

Thirty-six of this week's Rolex Top 50 are in the field for the Mizuno this week. There were a couple of adjustments to the field since it was first published last week, but both involve JLPGA players as last weekend's corunner-up and world #116 Michie Ohba (up 31 from last week) and the current #51 Akiko Fukushima (coming off a T14 at the Hisako Higuchi event, dropping two slots as a result) have pulled out and were replaced by players further down that tour's money list. All 14 absentees are LPGA members, led by #3 Suzann Pettersen, #5 Cristie Kerr, #6 Paula Creamer and #7 Angela Stanford.

The rankings report sees only one change within the Top 10 this week: Yani Tseng's T2 in Incheon has her leapfrogging over Kerr and Creamer into #4. Na Yeon Choi's win did nothing for her position as she remains at #11, but Maria Hjorth's efforts this week (T2) bumped her up 8 slots to #28. The top KLPGA finisher was Ran Hong, whose solo 4th now makes her #115, up 62 places. Bo Mee Lee's T11 allowed her to crack the Top 100, moving up 20 slots to #97. Mi-Jeong Jeon's win in Japan gained her 3 positions to #22, while Chie Arimura rose 3 places herself to #29 with her T2. The biggest gain this week was by Bo Mi Suh, whose win in China at the LET/LAGT/CGA tri-sanctioned Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open, her first as a professional, slingshots her 165 places to #182. LET regular Gwladys Nocera gained 11 places to #113 and who knows how much higher she would have placed had she not shown up 2 minutes late for her tee time Friday, been penalized 2 strokes as a result and ended up losing by one to Suh. Pornanong Phatlum of Thailand, who's had difficulty most of the season getting into LPGA events because of her status, finished solo 3rd in Suzhou and rose 123 places to #254.

A little distortion in the photo, but I believe the one on the right is Akane Iijima. I have no idea whether the one on the left is Mayu Hattori or Maiko Wakabayashi or someone else. One hint you can use to verify your own guess is to go to my hitchhiker's guide to the JLPGA post at Mostly Harmless, and check the bios of likely candidates. If someone's height is radically different from Momoko Ueda's, it's not that player! Too bad Chie Arimura and Mi-Jeong Jeon weren't in the pic!

Is that Ai Miyazato in blue, and is she really taller than Jiyai Shin?

Good luck BB! It would be really nifty if she got onto the LPGA tour with a win here. And it's also nice to see Jiyai Shin put herself back into contention. It would be very cool if she could defend her title here, and another win would make her the big favorite to win POY, so I gotta root like heck for it to happen!

Also nice to see Inky and Inbee rallying a bit from their recent slumps, and I always love to see Hee Young anywhere near the top.

Good luck tomorrow, Sisters!!! Smile Very Happy

Hmmmm...the last time Ji Yai was a couple of shots behind going into the final round of a tournament in Japan, I dismissed her chances...only to be reminded, after a rousing come from behind victory, just why she is the "Final Round Queen"...so this time I'm just gonna go with the 2009 LPGA Player of the Year, Ji Yai Shin! Cool

...what's that? POY isn't locked up yet? It will be...

some pics from the first two days (sorry, I've been busy)...
