A HALL OF FAMER'S QUEST
We all know the goal...the career Grand Slam for the most influential player on the LPGA Tour, maybe the most influential player, in terms of changing the face of her tour, in all of sports. Tiger is the best, but he's been on the PGA Tour longer than Se Ri has been on the LPGA...are there 40-plus African American or Thai players on the PGA Tour?
She has come oh so close...the year she and Pettersen both stumbled with victory in sight. And now there are so many young players who could legitimately be seen as among the favorites going in, led by Ji Yai Shin.
But Se Ri gets up for the Majors over the years and I would absolutely not count her out. It won't be easy...if it were, she'd have already completed this...but it is a real possibility...she has had three good tournaments coming in.
Will it happen? Well...you always take the field over one player, even Tiger or Lorena...but I have a feeling win or lose, she'll play well this week. _________________ He Who Rides A Tiger Is Afraid To Dismount (Qi Hu Nan Xia)

I think Se Ri is going to do very well this time. Do I dare hope for a victory? _________________ It is golf. Gotta problem with that? |

I had a chat with Se-Ri's caddie TJ Jones early one morning at the HSBC Champions and he was saying her game is as good as it has been since the win at the Jamie Farr in 07.
It also seems her shoulder, which I suspect bothered her far more than she ever admitted in 08, is no longer an issue.
So there are a couple of good reasons for optimism! |

| This week will be fun. Spouse and I will be there, so if you see an old broad with a Long's cap on with some LPGA pins, say hello. Spouse will follow L.O. I'll likely watch Grace for a bit, then walk the course and see as much play as I can. So fun. |

She knows she is going to win again and again, she is just enjoying the walk down the hall of fame. _________________ (I am not a tree, I am a tee, hit me... ah... wait a minute...) |

Ricearoni. I'll be there. Following Se Ri for all 72.
6'4", thin, probably with a SeoulSisters button on my hat. Say hello if you see me.
What is that next to Grace in that photo? That trophy seems WAY bigger these days. Lorena is holding something torso sized. |

I seem to recall in 2007 that, coming into this event, Se Ri was not playing all that well, yet she was in contention right until the final few holes. IIRC, she also did pretty well in 2008 despite not having a promising lead up. She is playing much better this year than either of those years. So, yeah, I would say, don't count her out. Coming off missed cuts in two straight Majors, I'm SURE she is eager to make a statement.

Good deal Say You. I'd like to watch a bit of the Hall of Famer too. I'm an old caucasian bag. I'll have a white Long's Drugs cap on, and probably Long's golf shirt too. Going to be fun! |

Go Kimmie Go was asking last week about Jiyai's shafts and the fact they look like graphite.
I can clear up the mystery.
At the 08 British Open there was a guy starting a company called Shaft Skinz who was offering to bling up the girls' clubs free-of-charge. Jiyai went Hot Rod on her whole bag... even the putter, until she realised it was visually confusing. Last time I saw her she still had the flames on the shaft of her driver and, judging by last week's shots still has the same shafts from last year. |

Actually it was PHILK_NJ asking about the shafts of Ji Yai’s clubs. He was also curious about the manufacturer of her irons and I provided a link to a site where you can explore the clubs in her bag. The site provides a high-resolution zoom feature so good you can see the scratches on the club heads!
Long story short – her irons are Japanese made si3 501’s – I believe they are considerably less expensive than the Honma’s that Kimmie, Shan Shan Feng, and a few of the others girls play.
Here’s the link:

Thanks for the info on the customized shafts….. Something we would have never known without your insight! |

Wow...I've never met Christina or Ji Yai, but my impression of Christina is that she is one of a kind!! Plus, I think if Ji Yai wants to work on her English, Christina could teach her a few...ummmm..."special" words!!

You know, I have refused to believe the game has passed either Se Ri or Grace by...that either burnout or injury were the problem...we know about Grace's chronic back problems...it seemed Se Ri had the desire back...perhap you are right, there was more of an injury there than Team Se Ri let on...

Now I'll be checking out the galleries for a woman with a Long's cap on! If I recall correctly, I think at one tournament when they were following Jee Young Lee, The Golf Channel caught a shot of Verdant Garden in the gallery...I think it was VG... _________________ He Who Rides A Tiger Is Afraid To Dismount (Qi Hu Nan Xia)

Greentee... yes! Miles off base!
What I would say is that Christina is one of the kindest people you can meet... but I think it's fair to say that Christina rides a bit of an emotional rollercoaster in her life.
Jiyai is also really kind, will do all sorts of things for people (I'm on Skype with her caddie Deane right now... btw he says she's up to number three in the world now!)... she's a very consistant character, solid, just like her golf... he's saying she's always said she just wants to be normal... just wants to be average (as a person... not as a golfer!)... she wants to help people... Deane says she's a giver, not a taker! There you go! The inside track! |
