Gulbis set to light up Pattaya contest
Place confirmed at Honda LPGA event

Pin-up star Natalie Gulbis and evergreen Laura Davies will take part in the star-studded US$1.45m Honda LPGA Thailand 2009 next month, organisers said yesterday.
American Gulbis and Britain's Davies will join a field including world number one Lorena Ochoa and fourth-ranked Paula Creamer in the country's most prestigious ladies golf tournament.
The event will be held at Siam Country Club's Plantation course in Pattaya from February 26-March 1.
California-born Gulbis, one of the most attractive golfers on the LPGA Tour, will make her debut in the event, which was watched by some 25,000 spectators in 2007.
Ranked 42nd in the world, the 26-year-old won the 2007 Evian Masters to land her only title since turning professionl in 2001. Despite failing to win any other tournaments, she earned more than US$3m in prize money last year.
The 45-year-old Davies, who has won 20 LPGA tournaments, will make her second appearance in the Honda tournament. In 2007, she was second behind Suzann Petterson of Norway.
Other golfers who have confirmed their participation include LPGA Tour rookies Shiho Oyama and Mika Miyazato of Japan.
Miyazato, 19, was the only amateur to earn a LPGA Tour card for this year when she finished tied 12nd at last month's qualifying school.
For the local fans, they will have a chance to cheer LPGA player Russamee Gulyanamitta, who will be playing as a sponsor's invite.
Unfortunately, former US Women's Amateur champion Virada Nirapathpongporn will miss out as she is recovering from shoulder surgery.
Russamee, 32, played 14 LPGA tournaments last year and her best performance was joint runner-up spot at the SBS Open in Hawaii.
Also in the tournament will be Ashleigh Simon of South Africa, who is one of the most promising golfers on LPGA Tour. She is also a sponsor's invite
Surang Prempree, managing director of Channel 7, said more stars would announce their participation by the end of this month.
"With top golfers from many countries, we expect to receive excellent TV coverage from around the world," said Surang.
"We hope to achieve our goal in boosting the country's tourism industry."
Prasertchai Phornprapha, managing director of Siam Country Club, said that the course would be in best shape for the tournament for both players and fans. |

I’m hoping to get back to Thailand in time for the Honda LPGA Tournament at the end of February, it will be the third time the LPGA has had a tournament in Thailand and every one has been on a different golf course.
I was in Thailand from October to December last year during the time that Swampy (the expat nickname for Suvarnabhumi International Airport) and Don Muang (the domestic airport) were occupied.
I was staying in Udon Thani in the North East of the country and if it was not for TV & the internet I would not have known that the airport had been occupied. |

TV coverage should be available on the internet at http://tvonline.ch7.com/
The current proposed schedule is: February 26, 0pm - 1am (1hr)
February 27, 2pm - 5pm (3hrs)
February 28, 3pm-5pm (2hrs)
March 01, 3pm - 5pm (2hrs) Please remember if you plan to try and watch it that Thailand is (I think) 12 hours ahead of EST.
A third of the "final" field has Korean links, so there is a good chance of some reasonable coverage. |

You are right, Jimbo. Switch PM to AM and vice versa when converting EST to tee times on Thai time. _________________ It is golf. Gotta problem with that? |

I tried watching online last time, but the link came back with a message that it was geoblocked outside of Thailand. We'll see...

My wife and I have had more than enough of the cold this winter and are heading off for Thailand tomorrow.
Despite my wife having somewhat less than zero interest in golf, I've received permission to go and watch all four days of the tournament (which is about 500 miles from where we are staying) |

The Nite Warden - thanks for the post. I noticed that Ashliegh Simon's name was on the list of players. I had lost touch with all golf for a few years, and her golf carrier. Back then I thought and posted, (LPGA old-fan site), that she looked to have the talent to make it to the LPGA...., and was sharply told by someone who watched her play, (live or TV, I don't know), and said she just swings like a girl, and will never make it on any quality tournaments. Good to see I was right. Go Ashliegh.
Now just have to find an Inet TV of the event.
Jimbo - thanks for that link.... tried it and it works for now. But as Ice Cat says, a lot of these Intet vids are now being geoblocked. I wonder about these geoblocks... if they are originated at the country link or from over here.
Humm... ch 7 web tv works at 56k speed and 128k speed, but have to wait periodically for buffer to catch up.
PS: oh ya changed my avatar... took a bit, bitmap sucks... jpeg does the trick. _________________ (I am not a tree, I am a tee, hit me... ah... wait a minute...) |

I see that this will be Song-Hee's first outing of the year. I've followed her since her stay on the Futures Tour. She is a victory waiting to happen. Could this be the tournament?
Good luck to all the Seoul Sisters, You have fans all over, even on a 20 square mile piece of rock in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean called Bermuda. |

Welcome, micmat!
I always liked Song-Hee while she was on the FuturesTour, but I really became a fan when overhearing her host family talk at the first Arkansas event two years ago... They described an outstanding young lady with terrific manners and character...
And yes, I agree she's a win waiting to happen...

Thank you for the welcome, much appreciated. Being out here in the middle of the ocean my exposure to the tours is pretty well confined to what I'm able to watch on television and from websites such as this, and from what I've seen terrific manners and outstanding character seems to be the hallmarks of the Koreans and Japanese on tour. Seon Hwa Lee's rookie of the year acceptance speech a couple of years back is testimony to that. I was fortunate enough however to see Se Ri Pak play here some time back in what is now the Wendys Three Tour Challenge when it was played here for a few years and she was just a class act. Once again thanks for the welcome. I'm looking forward to the interaction with fellow fans for this upcoming tour year. Take care, have a good one, whatever that one may be. |

I love her, but I gotta say: Jin-Joo? What an awesome and surprising first round! Would love to see her get another win...
What in the Wide Wide World Of Sports is going on with Ji-Yai? Anyone wanna bet she's still hurt?
Go SS!
